Carmel clarifies travel order, encourages donating blood

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard has ordered the closure of Brookshire Golf Club – except for those wanting to walk the course – in addition to closing the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Site on Range Line Road. Both closures were announced Thursday and additional steps may be taken to continue to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.

In addition, the City released a clarification to Wednesday’s travel order and emergency declaration, to make sure residents understand that a trip to donate blood is just as important as a trip to the grocery store, your doctor, or to a job where you must be physically present. In addition, to address some questions that have been raised, the City has added the following to the emergency order:

“All persons utilizing a public trail or multi-use path, or visiting a public park, are permitted to travel to and from these facilities and to exit their vehicles in order to make use of them, provided that proper “social distancing” protocols are followed when doing so.”

“Our hope is that our residents in Carmel will use their common sense and do the right thing when it comes to making unnecessary trips that could expose them to social interactions that we are trying to prevent,” Brainard said. “We must realize that there is no greater civil liberty than the freedom to live without fear that someone you encounter might be the bearer of a virus that will take away your ability to enjoy good health and safety. We need to be diligent and take these matters seriously in order to stop the spread of this deadly virus.”

The City has also updated its growing list of local restaurants that remain open for carry out and delivery. You can keep up with all updates by visiting the City’s special COVID-19 page.
