Carmel City Council welcomes Ayers, selects new officers for 2023

Carmel City Councilors have elected a new slate of officers for 2023, naming At-Large Councilor Jeff Worrell as the new Council President.

The Carmel City Council is comprised of nine members elected to four-year terms: three elected at-large and six elected from districts. The City Council constitutes the legislative body of the city. It approves the annual city budget, passes city ordinances and resolutions, and generally responds to specific needs of local residents.

Here are the new officers for 2023:

  • President: Jeff Worrell, At-Large
  • Vice President: Laura Campbell, North District (No. 4)
  • Parliamentarian: Sue Finkam, Northeast District (No. 2)
  • Chaplain: Kevin “Woody” Rider, At-Large

In addition to those new roles, at the Feb. 6 meeting, the City Council witnessed the official swearing-in of Teresa Ayers to fulfill the term in the Central District (No. 1). Ayers was appointed by Central District precinct committee members to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Bruce Kimball in December of 2020. That term expires on Dec. 31, 2023.
