The Carmel Arts Council welcomes guest artist Irina Smulevitch to Art in the Garden this Saturday, Sept. 11. This Art in the Garden event will be part of the Carmel Arts & Design District’s monthly Meet Me on Main sponsored by Allied Solutions. Smulevitch will be creating art in the garden using chalk and pastels from 4 to 8 p.m.
Smulevitch is an artist, an educator and the owner of Carmel Art Education Studio. A cum laude graduate with a Master of Fine Arts from the prestigious Academy of Design in Moscow, Russia, Smulevitch has taught art and design classes both privately and in higher education for more than 25 years.
She began her teaching career in Dallas, Texas, and continued in New York and in Frederick, Md. After a decade spent teaching at the Indianapolis Art Center, in 2018 she opened Carmel Art Education Studio in The Village of West Clay.
Smulevitch is an acclaimed and award-winning artist with her works exhibited internationally. Several works belong to private collectors around the world and here in the United States.
“For me, teaching and painting are interconnected,” said Smulevitch, a longtime Carmel resident. “Painting is simply communicating through the language of art. I want to be able to share my thoughts and emotions and make people around me happy. I believe that it is very important to awaken a spirit of creativity in everyone, whatever their level of artistic potential. My art work is a mirror of my feelings and an interpretation in color of my emotions and life experience. So, sometimes it is bright and cheerful, and sometimes it’s more monochromatic. I find my inspiration in music, in nature, and in everyday life. I believe that you can find beauty everywhere around if you are looking for it and ready to appreciate it.”
Art in the Garden is an event that takes place in the garden located immediately outside of the World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery at 40 West Main St., Carmel. This is a free event and everyone is invited to attend. In addition to meeting and observing the artist as she creates a unique work, there will be a children’s table to allow for the young ones to join in the fun.
The World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery will be open for visitors as well.
