Carmel announces second annual Día de la Familia

Following last year’s highly successful debut, the City of Carmel, in partnership with local Latino leaders and dedicated citizens, announces the return of Día de la Familia. The second annual celebration will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Carter Green.

Leading this year’s event committee is Antonio Chapital, President of Mécaci, a local nonprofit that empowers Mexican youth in Indiana through art, education and cultural celebration.

“We are excited to partner with the City of Carmel,” Chapital said. “This family-friendly festival will showcase the vibrant spirit and rich heritage of Carmel’s diverse Hispanic community.”

This year’s festival features an expanded lineup of entertainment, delicious food, and hands-on activities designed for attendees of all ages. Children can look forward to a lively afternoon filled with creative and interactive experiences including:

• Face painting and sugar skull decorating
• Youth soccer activities
• Meet Liaison Chief John Moriarty with the Carmel Fire Department and explore a real, on-site firetruck.

The stage will come alive with traditional rhythms and captivating choreography and festival attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the performers:

• Grupo Folclórico Macehuani: Watch an exciting performance by this renowned 20-person Ballet Folclórico ensemble, showcasing the rich, regional dance traditions and brilliant attire of Mexico.
• Mariachi Sol Jalisciense: Enjoy the soul-stirring, energetic sounds of traditional mariachi music performed live by this premier Indianapolis-based ensemble.

The success of Día de la Familia lies in its grassroots, collaborative approach. The city extends its gratitude to the dedicated resident committee whose vision and volunteer efforts continue to shape this beautiful cultural tradition.

This event is free and open to the public. Neighbors and visitors alike are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, appetites, and dancing shoes to Carter Green for an unforgettable afternoon.
