Busy Wednesday for county’s softball teams

Lily Roush delivered a no-hitter for the Hamilton Heights softball team on Wednesday, and that led to the completion of a Hoosier Conference East Division sweep.

The Huskies beat Tipton 10-0 in a home game. Roush threw 11 strikeouts in the game, and the most important one was a strikeout for the third out of the top of the first inning, after the Blue Devils had loaded the bases.

Heights then put up six runs in the bottom of the first. Melanee Forrester singled in Lily Cash and Hailey Hall, then Taya Trosper cracked a right field triple to bring in Roush, Forrester and Kassidy Schakel. Morgan Ottinger’s base hit brought in Trosper.

The Huskies added three runs in the fourth inning. Cash batted in Ottinger, then later scored on an error. Kaylee Rhoton’s center field hit scored Roush. Hall ended the game in the fifth inning with a left field single to score Trosper.

Cash was 3-for-4 at the plate, with Forrester and Ottinger both getting two hits.

Heights is 2-2 in division play and 8-3 overall, and hosts Elwood on Friday.

Fishers used a seventh-inning surge to win at Lawrence North 11-4 on Wednesday.

Both teams scored three runs in the second inning. The Tigers’ Azstryd Alexander sent a two-run home run over the center field fence, also scoring Brooke Johnson, who led off the inning with a double. Hailey Kinder later scored on a wild pitch.

The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the second inning, then went up 4-3 in the third on a solo home run. Fishers pulled back ahead in the fourth inning; Ashtin Grubb’s left field single brought in Kate Murray and Kinder, then Taylor Duplessis scored on Jenna Grubb’s sacrifice fly.

Murray opened the sixth inning with a center field homer, and the Tigers led 7-4. In the seventh inning, Johnson blasted a three-run home run, also scoring Hailey Trueblood and Kendall Jordan. Duplessis completed the scoring with a double to bring in Kinder; it was Kinder’s third run of the game.

Murray was 3-for-4 at the plate. Liv McNall went four innings for the pitching win, with Murray throwing the other three in relief, tossing four strikeouts.

Fishers is 5-3 and plays this afternoon at Yorktown.

A Noblesville comeback fell just short on Wednesday as the Millers dropped a 4-3 road game to Harrison.

The Raiders scored four runs in the first inning. Noblesville got two runs back in the second inning, as Erin Clark bunted in Macie Duvall, then Bella Schatko scored on Addi Emmerson’s sacrifice fly. The score remained 4-2 until the seventh inning, when Gabby Fowler hit a solo home run with two outs. But Harrison got the third out to end the game.

Fowler also hit a double, giving her two hits on the day.

The Millers are 4-4 and play this weekend at the Carmel Invitational. Noblesville takes on Lake Central Friday evening in its first game.

Sheridan dropped a Hoosier Heartland Conference game 10-0 in five innings Wednesday at Clinton Prairie.

Maelei Casler and Ashlynn Tryon both had one hit for the Blackhawks. Casler threw four strikeouts.

Sheridan is 1-8 and hosts Eastern this afternoon in a conference game.

Guerin Catholic fell to Bishop Chatard 20-7 in a home Circle City Conference game on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles scored a run in the first inning when Anna Mauch singled in Lauren Brady. The Trojans tied the game with an RBI base hit in the top of the second inning, then went up 3-1 in the third.

Chatard poured in seven runs in the top of the fourth to lead 10-1. Guerin Catholic got three runs back in the bottom of the inning. Madi Cain batted in Lilli Everts with a center field hit. Everts and Lainey Rott later scored when Lucy Kemp reached on error.

The Trojans got going again in the sixth inning, putting up 10 runs for a 20-4 lead. The Golden Eagles fought to the end: Brady drew a leadoff walk, then Cain doubled her to third. Kemp sent a single into center field to score them both, then later got home on a wild pitch. Kemp was 3-for-4 at the plate.

Guerin Catholic is 0-3 in the conference and 1-6 overall, and hosts Warren Central on Monday.

Carmel fell to Pendleton Heights 15-1 in five innings in a Wednesday away game.

Lily Sullivan scored the Greyhounds’ run on a fourth-inning solo home run.

Carmel is 1-7 and hosts its annual Invitational this weekend. The Greyhounds take on Tecumseh Friday night in their first game.
