Boys volleyball: Rocks, Millers advance at HSE sectional

The Westfield and Noblesville boys volleyball teams both swept their first-round matches on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the IHSAA Sectional 8 tournament at Hamilton Southeastern.

The Shamrocks (15-10) beat Kokomo 25-10, 25-13, 25-19. Junior Aidyn Kuzma led the offense with nine kills, while sophomore Simon Falvey put down eight kills. Kuzma also scored four aces, while junior Xavier Lyons dished out 22 assists.

Senior Stevie Alvarez collected seven digs on defense. Lyons made four blocks.

The Millers (12-20) cruised past Peru 25-13, 25-10, 25-14 in the second match of the night. Stats were unavailable at press time.

Westfield and Noblesville will play each other in the first semifinal of Sectional 8, which starts at 11 a.m. Saturday. First-round matches continue tonight at Southeastern: The Royals play Carmel at 6 p.m., then Guerin Catholic and Fishers face off at 7:30 p.m.

University dropped a five-set match to Park Tudor Wednesday in a first-round match of Sectional 9 at Pike.

The Panthers won 25-20, 20-25, 25-15, 19-25, 16-14. The Trailblazers finished their season 13-8.
