Sometimes the penalty kicks go your way, sometimes they don’t.
The Sheridan boys soccer team won a PK shootout with Carroll on Tuesday, but lost in the same manner on Wednesday. In a continuation of a game that was stopped due to lightning on Monday, the Blackhawks fell to Taylor in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game. The score at the end of regulation was 4-4, and the Titans won the penalty kick round 4-3.
The game resumed with the score at 3-3 with 20 minutes to go in the second half. Taylor scored with less than three minutes to go, but Sheridan answered right away, as Caleb Duke converted a successful penalty kick to make the score 4-all. That score would hold throughout the end of the second half and both overtime periods.
The Titans made four out of five penalty kicks in the shootout, and the Blackhawks kept pace with them, but their final PK was blocked by the Taylor goalkeeper.
“We played hard Monday night, we played hard Tuesday night, we played hard tonight and now we got to play again tomorrow night,” said Sheridan coach Derry Zachery. “So it’s a crazy week, but the guys are giving a great effort and can’t fault them for that. I think it’s a positive sign that we’re so discouraged after a game, because that means we’re in games this year.”
The Blackhawks are now 3-1 in HHC play. Sheridan travels to Eastern today for their final conference game of the season. The Comets are 2-1, so the Blackhawks would win the HHC title if they win today. Overall, Sheridan is 3-8-1.
University, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, beat Western Boone 8-1 on Wednesday.
Seven different scorers helped the Trailblazers roll to victory.
