The Fishers boys soccer team has jumped out to an early lead in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play, as the Tigers beat Westfield 2-0 on Tuesday.
Fishers scored its goal with around 20 minutes in the second half, as Elliott Mozingo converted a long free kick. After the Tigers beat new HCC opponent Franklin Central on Saturday, Fishers is now 2-0 in conference play.
“It’s a great feeling,” said first-year Tigers coach Phil Schmidt. “We’ve got a lot of positive energy going. 2-0’s a great start to the season, especially both being conference games and two shutouts. We want to be great defensively and so to get two shutouts this early is a great sign.”
“I think we’re still learning,” said Shamrocks coach Kevin Scanlon, whose team was playing its first game of the season. “We’ve got a lot of young guys out there. You go up against one of the top teams in the conference first, you’re going to have to show it. I thought my guys played well.”
Hamilton Southeastern opened its season with a 5-0 win over Lawrence North on Tuesday.
The Royals, ranked No. 3 in the Class 3A pre-season coaches poll, led 1-0 at halftime, with Sean Williams scoring the goal. Southeastern then poured in four goals in the second half: Zaden Eby-Holmes scored two, with Jacob White and Parker Gopsill both getting one.
Noblesville dropped its opener at Greenfield-Central 2-1 on Monday.
The Cougars scored their first goal in the first half. In the second half, the Millers had many great chances. Drew Barnes had a near-post shot saved with a spectacular effort by the Greenfield-Central goalie. Tyler Cassidy hit the far post with a nice left footed curler.
The Millers did break up the clean sheet to tie the game at 1 with a free kick by Gabe Imes. But the Cougars scored the winning goal on a 25-yard shot with five minutes left.Noblesville is back in action on Thursday, playing its first home game of the season against 3A No. 10 Carmel.
Sheridan dropped its opener on Tuesday, falling to Rossville 7-0.
The Blackhawks host Anderson Prep on Thursday.
