Boys soccer: Boys: Heights ties University, Carmel & Guerin Catholic cruise to victory

In a Tuesday all-county game, Hamilton Heights and University played to a 1-1 tie at the Trailblazers’ field.

University scored its goal in the first half, with Elliot Muehlhausen finding the back of the net. The Huskies kept fighting and tied the game with 1:40 left in the second half. Phoenix Vondersaar got the tying score.

“That’s resilience,” said Heights coach Drew Colvin. “At least we’re not putting our heads down and quitting when it’s late game, so that’s the positive takeaway.”

“To be fair, it was one of our better performances of the year,” said Trailblazers coach Alex Baumgart. University graduated several seniors from last season.

“At the end of the day, it was a good showing on our part, we just need to be a little more clinical in our finishing,” said Baumgart.

University is 5-5-2 and hosts Beech Grove next Tuesday. The Huskies are 9-1-5 and play Thursday at Western.

Carmel cruised past Cathedral 3-0 in a Tuesday game at Murray Stadium.

Christian Nielsen scored two first-half goals for the Greyhounds, then added a third goal in the second half. Adam Keleher started the sequence, sending the ball to Connor Dora, who sent it to Nick Basso, who sent the ball to Nielsen for the score.

Carmel is 10-1-1 and plays Thursday at New Palestine.

Guerin Catholic sailed to a 4-1 Circle City Conference win over Covenant Christian on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles finished CCC play 2-2-1 and are 4-7-1 overall. Guerin Catholic plays Thursday at Fishers.

The Tigers played to a 1-1 tie with Avon Tuesday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game. Fishers completed HCC play 4-1-2 and is 7-2-4 overall.

Sheridan split a pair of games to begin the week.

On Monday, the Blackhawks beat Tipton 3-2 in an away game. Sheridan led 2-0 at halftime, starting with a penalty kick taken by Donovan Aleman-Lewis. Henrique Mota put in the second goal late in the half.

The Blue Devils opened the second half with their first goal, but the ‘Hawks went back up 3-1 after Carsen Aleman headed in the ball from an Evan Krakora corner kick. Tipton scored one more time, but Sheridan held on for the win. Goalkeeper Cayden Spencer made seven saves.

The Blackhawks traveled to Carroll on Tuesday, but lost a Hoosier Heartland Conference game 5-0. The Cougars scored their first goal five minutes into the game and led 2-0 at halftime. Spencer had 12 saves.

Sheridan is 1-2 in conference play and 3-5-2 overall and continues HHC action Thursday at Eastern.

Westfield tied with Brownsburg 3-3 in a Tuesday HCC game.

The Shamrocks are 3-2-1 in the conference and 5-5-1 overall, and host Harrison Thursday.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped an HCC contest 2-0 to Zionsville on Tuesday.

The Royals are 1-4-2 in conference play and 7-5-2 overall. Southeastern plays next Thursday, Sept. 28, at Carmel for its regular-season finale.
