Boys soccer: Blackhawks easily handle Eastern, now only unbeaten team in conference; Greyhounds chase down New Palestine

The Sheridan boys soccer team is in the driver’s seat for a Hoosier Heartland Conference championship.

The Blackhawks took another step Thursday with an easy 6-1 win over Eastern. Sheridan led 2-1 at halftime, then scored the first of four second-half goals just over a minute into the second half.

Jackson Aleman led the Blackhawks’ scoring with three goals. Carsen Aleman added two goals and Trace Knight scored one goal.

“The guys, they do their best every single time and I’m proud of them again,” said first-year Sheridan coach Omar Estrada.

With the victory, the Hawks improved to 4-0 in the conference standings. Sheridan is the only unbeaten team in the HHC. Carroll holds a 5-1 record, having already finished conference play. Tri-Central is 3-1; the Blackhawks will play there on Wednesday before taking on Rossville to conclude their HHC season Thursday. Sheridan is 7-4-2 overall.

Carmel, the No. 12 team in Class 3A, beat New Palestine 5-0 Thursday at Brian Murray Stadium.

Tyler Schilts scored a pair of late goals for the Greyhounds, who improved to 4-5-3 with the win.

Carmel’s next game is Monday when it hosts Guerin Catholic at 7:30 p.m. The game was to be played today but was pushed back due to potential bad weather conditions.

Fishers, the No. 7 team in 3A, played to a 1-1 tie with 3A No. 3 Zionsville Thursday in a Hoosier Crossroads Championship game.

Reid Spittler scored the goal for the Tigers in the second half.

Fishers completed HCC play with a 3-2-2 record and is 8-3-3 overall. The Tigers’ next game is Saturday at McCutcheon.

In a Class 3A No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle, second-ranked Noblesville lost to top-ranked Center Grove 2-1 Thursday at the Trojans’ field.

Center Grove led 1-0 at halftime. The Millers tied halfway through the second half when Caedmon tied kicked a goalkeeper deflection into the net. But the Trojans scored a last-minute goal to get the victory.

Noblesville is 8-1-6 for the season, while Center Grove is unbeaten at 13-0. The Millers play at Franklin Central Tuesday in their HCC and regular-season finale.

Westfield, ranked No. 11 in 3A, dropped a 3-0 game at 3A No. 6 Harrison Thursday.

The Shamrocks beat Brownsburg 4-1 in a Tuesday HCC game to start the week. Westfield is 5-3-4 and hosts Plainfield Saturday morning.

In a Tuesday all-county game, University beat Hamilton Heights 4-2 at the Huskies’ field.

Noah Cordero and Avery Diaz both scored one goal for the Huskies, with Cordero assisting Diaz’s goal. Stats for the Trailblazers were not available.

University is 3-10 and finishes its regular season Monday by hosting Triton Central. Heights is 5-9 and hosts Muncie Burris Wednesday in its regular-season finale.
