Boys golf: Led by medalist Will Harvey, Shamrocks claim their third regional title in a row

The Westfield boys golf team won its third consecutive regional championship Friday, claiming the Harrison regional at Coyote Crossing in West Lafayette.

The Shamrocks edged out Zionsville for the victory, the program’s fifth overall. Both teams scored 309, but Westfield won on the fifth-man score. Both teams, along with third-place Guerin Catholic, will advance to next week’s IHSAA state finals at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The Golden Eagles placed third with a 316 and will try for a third consecutive state title next week.

The Rocks were led by Will Harvey, who won medalist honors with an even par 72. Harvey made three birdies in his round. Jake Cesare scored a 77, draining two birdies along the way. Hudson Kutchma also had two birdies, while Ryan Cesare and Brayden Worthington both made one.

Eli Wessel was Guerin Catholic’s low man with a 76, tying him for fifth place individually. Leo Wessel scored a 78, both made three birdies in their rounds. Owen Nielsen scored a 79 and had two birdies, while Gabe Berglund collected one birdie.

Carmel had three players competing as individuals. Ethan Hoagland was part of the fifth-place tie with a 76, and he will advance to state as one of the three low scorers not on an advancing team. Hoagland made three birdies on the day. The Greyhounds’ Noah Johnson scored a 79, making one birdie.

The two-day state finals begin Tuesday at Prairie View and finish Wednesday.

Medalist: Will Harvey (Westfield) 36-36=72.

Guerin Catholic scores: Eli Wessel 36-40=76, Leo Wessel 36-42=78, Owen Nielsen 39-40=79, Gabe Berglund 39-44=83, Will Parenteau 42-42=84.

Carmel scores: Ethan Hoagland 36-40=76, Noah Johnson 41-38=79, Noah Husk 38-43=81.
