The Sheridan boys basketball team ran away with its own inaugural invitational last Saturday at Larry Hobbs Gymnasium.
The Blackhawks opened the event with a 72-24 victory over North White. Sheridan led 19-5 after one quarter and 43-7 by halftime; the entire second half was played under a running clock.
Caleb Wright scored 18 points for the ‘Hawks, with Trey Page scoring 16 and Damon Winston adding nine points. Winston pulled seven rebounds and dished out five assists, while Wright made seven steals.
Sheridan then cruised past Hagerstown 85-55 in the championship game. The Blackhawks outscored the Tigers in each quarter, leading 19-9 after one and 44-27 at halftime. Page scored 24 points in the first half, hitting four 3-pointers.
Sheridan rolled through the second half, outscoring Hagerstown 41-28. Five different Blackhawks reached double digits, led by Page with 28 points. Winston scored 13 points, then Caleb Wright, Devon Hamilton and Carson Wright all added 10 points.
Winston collected seven rebounds, with Caleb Wright pulling five and also dishing out seven assists. Hamilton blocked three shots and Page made five steals.
Sheridan is 8-1 for the season and riding a seven-game winning streak. This is also the best start for the ‘Hawks since they went 7-2 to begin the 2012-13 campaign. Sheridan is back in action Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at Parke Heritage.
