The University boys basketball team played its opening game on Friday, holding off host Seton Catholic 58-54 in a Pioneer Conference North Division game.
The Trailblazers led 15-14 after one quarter, with Josh Henderson scoring six points off the bench. The game slowed down in the second quarter, with the Cardinals working their way back to tie it at 22-22 by halftime.
University surged ahead 39-30 after three periods, with Max McComb hitting two 3-pointers and scoring eight in that quarter. Faisal Mohamud went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. The ‘Blazers held firm during a 24-point fourth quarter from Seton Catholic; Mohamud made two free throws with 39 seconds left to help clinch the game.
McComb finished with 17 points, while Mohamud scored 15. Blake Gray totaled 11 points, scoring in all four quarters.
University plays its first home game tonight against Greenwood Christian.
