Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) in partnership with Sheridan Alumni Association is introducing the new Blackhawk Alumni Club. This board is made up of former Blackhawks, students, and staff who share the goal of staying informed and connected with SCS.
The focus of the Blackhawk Alumni Club will be to keep former graduates and employees up to date and connected to all of the great things happening at SCS.
“Sheridan Community Schools has a long and incredible history of both former Blackhawk graduates and as well as unbelievable employees,” Superintendent Dr. Dave Mundy said. “We want to continue to make sure these individuals are a part of the school’s future and have a way to stay in contact, as well as, involved as we push towards a very bright future.”
Mundy also noted the importance of staying true to the district’s motto of “Once a Blackhawk, Always a Blackhawk.”
A key part of the Alumni Club will be the voting on members to the new Blackhawk Wall of Fame. The Blackhawk Alumni Club hopes to recognize those who have made achievements to help make the Sheridan community a better place. Members will also network and connect with fellow alumni and employees, receive a monthly newsletter with updates on SCS events and happenings, and finally receive invitations to special alumni events.
Blackhawk Alumni Club’s first president, Chuck Godby, said the goal of the club is for the individuals that walked the halls of Sheridan to stay connected with the happenings of the school. He said he believes Sheridan gives more than just an education; it gives friendships and memories. The goal and focus are for those who walked the halls of Sheridan to stay connected to the place that helped shape and grow them into who they are.
Godby said he hopes that this new club continues to focus on connecting the past, present, and future.
“It is, indeed, exciting for me to be part of the upstart Blackhawk Alumni Club, and an incredible honor being named its first president,” he said. “I’m part of a dedicated group of individuals whose mission is to bring together a growing, thriving school system with those – like me – who once roamed the halls of Dear Old SHS. I hope everyone likes what we’re doing. Onward Sheridan!”
In order to be a part of the Blackhawk Alumni Club there is a fee of $50. This fee will fund special events at both of the homecomings as well as provide a monthly newsletter to the members. The newsletter will be a recollection of all the great things that are going on in the community and schools. This fee also includes several other “goodies,” a special T-shirt, and also other member-only opportunities and items. The group will advertise at both football and basketball homecomings through various events.
