Baseball: Western finishes sweep of Huskies

For the second night in a row, the Western Panthers brought their bats against Hamilton Heights, proving their worth at No. 4 in 3A.

After Tuesday night’s 16-0 win in Arcadia, the series moved to Russiaville for game two. The Panthers scored in four straight innings to sweep the Hoosier Conference series with a 9-2 win.

Dillon Pitts started on the mound. But, it was a rough outing, as he gave up seven runs (all earned) on seven hits, walked five and struck out five in 4.2 innings. Cy Mason threw 1.1 innings, giving up just two hits and yielded two runs.

Western scored three in the third and two in the fourth for a 5-0 advantage.

Landon Hickman led off the fifth with a solo home run to left. Then, with two down, Brennen Heckman doubled. Chase Hall walked to for two on. AJ Flanagan singled to short, sending Heckman home and the Huskies trailed by three, 5-2.

The Panthers scored four in the fifth and sixth to stretch out their winning score.

Hamilton Heights (3-4) hits the road to Bunker Hill tomorrow night to face the Maconaquah Braves at 6 p.m.
