Baseball: VanOeveren dominates for Huskies in win

The Hamilton Heights baseball team rode a dominant performance from pitcher Drew VanOeveren to an 8-0 Hoosier Conference victory over Tipton Tuesday at the Huskies’ field.
VanOeveren threw a complete game, striking out 15 batters. He allowed only three hits and issued no walks.
At the plate, VanOeveren and Sam Allen each had two hits, a single and a double. VanOeveren and Landon Hurley both batted in two runs.
Heights is 8-0 and plays at Tipton today to complete the conference series.

Carmel put together a hitting clinic on Tuesday, overwhelming North Central 18-9 at the Panthers’ field.
Griffin Wolf led the way for the Greyhounds, smacking two three-run home runs. Wolf hit one homer each in the third and fifth innings, giving him six RBIs for the day. He was 3-for-5 at the plate.
Kenny Bruntlett, Cam Carmichael, Tripp Schroeder and Hunter Snow all hit home runs as well; Carmichael totaled three RBIs. JD Stein hit a triple. James Ross pitched four innings, striking out five.
Carmel is 2-2 and hosts Whiteland on Friday.

University is in the midst of a nice win streak, as the Trailblazers sailed to three victories over the past four days.
On Saturday, University played in the Lebanon tournament, where it sailed past Speedway and the host Tigers in run-rule games. The ‘Blazers beat the Sparkplugs 15-0; Jasper Owens went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs. University took care of Lebanon 13-1, with Thomas Price 3-for-3 at the plate. Mark Hamby hit a home run.
The Trailblazers won 7-0 at Lewis Cass on Tuesday. Jake Hooker drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 night at the plate, with Price and Owen Schellhase each getting two hits. Hooker also got the pitching win, with 10 strikeouts.
University is 6-2 and hosts Shortridge on Thursday.

Guerin Catholic lost a tough Circle City Conference game at Brebeuf Jesuit on Tuesday, 9-8 in nine innings.
The game was tied at 6-6 after the regulation seventh inning. The Golden Eagles scored twice in the top of the ninth inning, but the Braves won on a walkoff single with two outs in the ninth.
Adam Novelen, Bryson Dorsey and Ryan Zimmerman all had two hits for Guerin Catholic, with Zimmerman getting a double. Clay Patton struck out five in three and two-thirds innings.
The Golden Eagles are 6-2 for the season.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 3-0 Hoosier Crossroads Conference game to Avon Tuesday at Ken Seitz Field.
The Orioles held the Royals to two hits, one each from Eli Miller and Hunter Wright. Eli Lund pitched four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.
The Royals are 4-6 and play at Avon tonight to complete the HCC series.
