The first game of the Mudsock baseball series between Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern went to extra inings Thursday at the Royals’ Ken Seitz Field.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the regulation seven innings. The Tigers would score seven runs in the 10th inning, eventually winning 9-4.
Southeastern got on the board in the third inning when Peyton Riekhof batted in Jason Dettman. Fishers answered right away in the top of the fourth with a solo home run by JP Preston, but the Royals got the lead back in the bottom of the inning after Hunter Dilts singled home Cole Earlewine.
The Tigers tied the game up again in the fifth inning after Carson Dunn scored on a passed ball. The score would stay at 2-2 until the top of the 10th inning.
With one out, Caulin Brown doubled in Joey Brenczewski to give Fishers its first lead of the game at 3-2. The Tigers then had five consecutive batters reach base, eventually scoring three runs, one each from Gavin Kuzniewski, Preston and Jack Braun. Zach Cox and Gavin Clayton both scored to get Fishers ahead 8-2, then Brenczewski doubled Dunn home to give the Tigers a 9-2 lead.
The Royals scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th, with J.T. Mutchner getting the first run. Earlewine scored on a passed ball, but Kyle Manship ended the inning with a strikeout.
Brenczewski and Jack Brown both had three hits, with Brenczewski and Caulin Brown both hitting one double. Tate Warner pitched seven innings, tossing 13 strikeouts. Mason Sweeney came in starting with the eighth inning and pitched two and one third innings to get the win, striking out seven. Manship had two strikeouts, giving Fishers a school record 22 strikeouts in one game.
Earlewine and Dilts both had two hits, with Earlewine hitting a double. Sam Reagan pitched seven innings, striking out five.
The Tigers are 11-7 for the season, while Southeastern is 7-9-1. The series shifts to Fishers tonight, with Game 2 starting at 6 p.m.

Westfield picked up another Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory on Thursday, beating Noblesville 4-1 at Grand Park in the first game of a two-game series.
The Class 4A No. 2 Shamrocks scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning when Trey Dorton singled home Keaton Mahan. The Millers tied it up in the third inning; Kolbi Kazmierski batted in Bryce Riggs with a right field hit.
Westfield scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third, as Cody South got home on Collin Lindsey’s sacrifice fly. The ‘Rocks added two more runs in the fourth, thanks to a two-RBI single from South that sent Quentin Markle and Mahan home.
South and Dorton each had two hits, with South hitting a double in the sixth inning. Gage Stanifer was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and striking out 14. Kade Robinson came in for the seventh inning and got the save, striking out three.
Kazmierski went 3-for-3 at the plate, with Dean White hitting a seventh-inning double. Ethan Leslie went four innings, tossing seven strikeouts.
The Shamrocks are 7-0 in HCC play and 11-1-1 overall, with the Millers 3-4 in the conference and 6-10 overall. The two teams will finish the series tonight at Westfield.

University won a Pioneer Conference game with Greenwood Christian Academy on Thursday, 10-0 in five innings at RoundTripper Academy.
The Class 2A No. 9 Trailblazers scored in each of the five innings, starting with two runs in the first. Tyler Galyean scored the first run when Adam Oxley reached on error, then Luke Hellman got home on Thomas Price’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Oxley hit a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. Seth Hogg led off the fifth with a double, then scored on Grady Hay’s RBI groundout. Weber Morse’s RBI single finished the game.
University coach Chris Estep said Thursday’s game was a “great bounce-back day” after his team dropped a tough game to Park Tudor on Tuesday.
“Guys played relaxed, they played loose, they swung the bat well,” said Estep.
Galyean had two hits, while both he and Hellman stole four bases. Jake Hooker pitched four innings for the win, striking out eight.
The ‘Blazers are 5-1 in the conference and 10-4 overall. University plays at the Wabash tournament on Saturday.

Guerin Catholic began the week with a Circle City Conference sweep of Heritage Christian.
On Monday, the Golden Eagles got a 6-5 walk-off win. Heritage led 5-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but that’s when Guerin Catholic began its comeback.
Daniel Donahue scored the first run on a wild pitch, then Davis Wagner got home on Adam Novelen’s RBI groundout. Wagner had gotten on base earlier with a double. Cuinn Morrow then scored on a wild pitch, and the Golden Eagles were within 5-3.
Guerin loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, then Will Fremion scored after Clay Patton drew a bases-loaded walk. Josh Schaff singled in Braden Reel to tie the game, then Wagner stepped up and got a base hit into left field, sending in Aidan Morse to clinch the win.
Wagner finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate. Morrow pitched the final one and a third innings to get the win.
In the Tuesday game, the Golden Eagles overwhelmed Heritage Christian 16-3 in six innings. Guerin Catholic got stronger as the game went on, finishing with five runs in the sixth inning.
Novelen hit a three-run home run in the third inning, while Anthony Ferrucci blasted a three-run triple in the fourth inning. Novelen finished the game with five RBIs, while both he and Ferrucci joined Sam Miller and Joe McCarthy in scoring three runs.
Spencer Wilt pitched four and two-thirds innings for the victory, striking out eight.
Guerin Catholic is 4-4 in conference play and 5-10 overall. The Golden Eagles play at North Central this afternoon.
