Baseball: Sheridan scores HHC sweep of CC

The Sheridan baseball team picked up a Hoosier Heartland Conference sweep of Clinton Central Saturday at the Blackhawks’ field.
Sheridan won the first game 6-5. The Bulldogs got a run in the top of the first inning, but the ‘Hawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Sebastian Salazar led off with a double, then eventually scored on a wild pitch. Silas DeVaney got home on Dayne Voege’s RBI groundout, then Zach Bales scored on another wild pitch.
Both teams added a run in the fourth inning, Camden Spencer scored for Sheridan when Salazar was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Clinton Central tied the game again in the sixth inning before the Blackhawks took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Grinstead batted in Camden Spencer, then Salazar singled home Grinstead.
Salazar and Spencer each had two hits. Cole Macintosh went three innings for the pitching win.
Sheridan scored early and often in the second game, leading to a 4-1 victory. Salazar again led off the contest with a double, then scored on DeVaney’s sacrifice fly.
Voege and Nathan Henshaw each got home in the second inning on an error. In the third inning, Voege doubled DeVaney home.
Salazar had two hits, and threw 11 strikeouts in four inning to pick up the win. Clinton Slopsema had five strikeouts in three innings of relief.
The Blackhawks are 4-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall. Sheridan travels to Delphi on Tuesday for another HHC game.

Fishers split a doubleheader with Greenfield-Central on Saturday.
The Tigers dropped the first game 11-3. The Cougars ran away with the contest in the middle innings, scoring five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Fishers was held to four hits; Joey Brenczewski batted in a run.
The Tigers rebounded with a 9-3 victory over Greenfield in the second game. Gavin Kuzniewski and Quinn Seefeldt both had three hits, with Seefeldt batting in three runs. Four different players hit a double. Kyle Manship tossed five strikeouts.
Fishers is 8-3 and begins a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series Thursday by hosting Westfield.

Guerin Catholic cruised to two overwhelming victories at the Lebanon Invitational on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles started the tournament by beating the host Tigers 20-6 in six innings. Guerin Catholic led 5-4 after five innings, then blasted through the sixth inning by pouring in 15 runs. Anthony Ferrucci batted in four runs, while Clay Patton had three RBIs, smacking a home run and a triple. Will Fremion and Bryson Dorsey both had three hits. Davis Wagner struck out seven to get the pitching win.
In their second contest, the Golden Eagles took care of Speedway 14-4 in five innings. Wagner had a solid day at the plate with three hits, while AJ Nunley and Ferrucci both hit triples. Cuinn Morrow got the pitching win in relief, with starter Ryan Zimmerman striking out six.
Guerin Catholic is 6-1 for the season.

Hamilton Southeastern swept a doubleheader at Kokomo on Saturday with two solid offensive performances.
The Royals beat the Wildkats 9-3 in the first game. Ty Bradle went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Ian Bucher hitting a triple. Clayton Wilke was 2-for-3 with a double. Griffen Haas got the pitching win, allowing only one hit in four innings.
Southeastern took care of Kokomo 12-4 in the second game. Haas hit a home run, while Eli Miller counted a triple and a double among his four hits. Landon Riekhof also hit a triple. Eli Lantz got the pitching win.
The Royals are 4-5 and host Avon Tuesday to begin an HCC series.
