The IHSAA released its pairings for the baseball sectional tournament Friday evening.
Hamilton County teams will compete in three different sectionals, with the 4A schools playing in Sectional 8 at Westfield, 3A teams traveling to Yorktown for Sectional 24 action, and Sheridan hosting 1A Sectional 58. First, the big schools, and this is a sectional where every game will be a big one.
Carmel, the No. 1 team in 4A, will take on old rival North Central in the first game of Sectional 8. That will be followed by a first-round contest between Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern. The Royals are receiving votes in the 4A poll; HSE and the Millers have both been ranked in the top 10 during earlier parts of the season.
The winners of those games will play in the first semi-final. The second semi-final will see No. 2 Fishers take on the host Shamrocks. Sectionals can begin on Wednesday, May 24 and will finish on Memorial Day (Monday, May 29); exact times for each site will be known in the coming days.
Over at Yorktown, Hamilton Heights will play its old rival Tipton in that sectional’s opening game. The Huskies are receiving votes in the 3A poll. Guerin Catholic, which also received votes early in the season, will play Delta in the first round.
Those two winners face off in the first semi-final, with Yorktown and Jay County to play the second semi-final.
Sheridan will play the opening game at its sectional. The Blackhawks will take on Tindley to start the tournament. Next up will be University playing Indiana School for the Deaf; the Trailblazers are receiving votes in the 1A pool.
The first-round winners play the first semi-final, with the second semi-final to see Indpls. Lutheran take on Bethesda Christian.
