Baseball: Royals take Game 3 of Mudsock series

The Hamilton Southeastern baseball team won Game 3 of the Mudsock series on Saturday, beating Fishers 11-2 at the Tigers’ field.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning. Cole Earlewine got the Royals’ run, then Caulin Brown batted in Joey Brenczewski to tie the game.
Southeastern took the lead for good in the second inning as Ty Bradle hit a grand slam home run into left field, also scoring Ian Bucher, Clayton Wilke and Hunter Wright. In the bottom of the second, Carson Dunn singled in Gavin Clayton, making the score 5-2.
The Royals added a run in the third inning when Maddux Bach got home on a wild pitch, then Bradle smacked his second homer in the fourth inning, a solo hit to left field.
Earlewine scored a second run in the sixth inning, then Bradle got home on Harrison Dilts’ RBI groundout to give Southeastern a 9-2 lead. The Royals added two more runs in the seventh inning, Landon Riekhof singled in Wilke, then Bradle scored his fourth run of the game on a wild pitch.
Bradle was 2-for-3, with five total RBIs. Sam Reagan pitched six innings for the win, striking out nine.
Jack Brown had two hits for the Tigers, including a double. Joey Wilmoth struck out six in two and two-thirds innings.
The Royals are 6-11, while Fishers is 13-5. Both teams play Carmel for their next game: The Tigers host the Greyhounds on Monday, then Southeastern plays at Carmel’s Hartman Field on Tuesday.

The Carmel boys baseball team swept a doubleheader at Ben Davis on Saturday.
First, the Greyhounds beat the Giants 12-2 in a five-inning game. Stats for that contest were unavailable at press time.
Carmel earned the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the second game. The ‘Hounds scored a run in the first inning; Nathan MacLaren led off with a double, then Hunter Snow hit his own double to send MacLaren home.
Ben Davis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but Carmel answered with three runs in the top of the second inning. Adam Buczkowski doubled in JD Stein, then MacLaren’s single sent Buczkowski home. Snow then cracked his second double of the day, scoring MacLaren.
The Greyhounds added two more runs in the sixth inning. Cam Carmichael hit a triple, then eventually scored by stealing home. Seconds later, Stein hit a double, then later scored on an error.
MacLaren, Snow, Stein and Buczkowski all had two hits, and Cody Kantz hit a double. Carter Klein threw five innings for the win, striking out five.
Carmel is 9-3 and plays at Fishers on Monday.

University split a pair of games at the Wabash Apache Classic on Saturday.
First, the Class 2A No. 3 Trailblazers beat Lapel 7-2. It was a tight game at first, with the two teams tied at 2-2 after six innings. University got its first run in the first inning when Jake Hooker scored on a passed ball. Hooker scored again in the fifth inning when Mark Hamby singled him home.
The ‘Blazers took over in the seventh inning. Three straight singles, by Hooker, Thomas Price and Seth Hogg, loaded the bases, and Hamby got Hooker and Price home with a double. Hogg advanced to third, and he scored when Brady Redman reached on error. Weber Morse was next, and his left field double sent Hamby and Redman home.
Hooker and Price both finished with three hits. Grayson Knight pitched a complete game, striking out 11.
University dropped its second game to Bishop Luers 3-2. The Trailblazers scored both of their runs in the first inning; Hamby tripled in Thomas Price, then scored on Weber Morse’s RBI groundout. The Knights scored their winning run in the fifth inning.
Hamby and Sam Woodward both had two hits. Price struck out seven in two and two-thirds innings.
University is 13-3 and plays Wednesday at Western.

Guerin Catholic picked a home win over Warren Central Saturday, 10-6.
The Warriors scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Golden Eagles struck back with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Will Fremion led off with a double, then scored on a Anthony Ferrucci’s base hit.
Davis Wagner then batted in Ferrucci and Clay Patton. Sam Tabor hit a double to move Wagner to third base, and Wagner got home when Bryson Dorsey reached on error. AJ Nunley singled home Tabor and Cuinn Morrow.
Tabor led off the third inning with a double, and eventually scored. Wagner batted in another run in the fourth inning, getting Patton home with a single. Guerin Catholic added two more runs in the fifth: Fremion batted in Sam Miller, and Ferrucci singled Fremion home.
Ferrucci finished with three hits, and Tabor hit two doubles. Ryan Zimmerman pitched five innings for the win, striking out five.
The Golden Eagles are 11-4 and host Zionsville Monday.
