Baseball: Millers begin week with two victories

The Noblesville baseball team got the week off to a nice start with two victories at Don Dunker Field.
On Monday, the Millers toughed out a win over New Castle 11-8. The Trojans got the game’s first run in the top of the first inning, but Noblesville came back with two runs in the bottom of the first. Kolbi Kazmierski got on base with a double, then was sent home by Drew Niswonger’s right field hit. Niswonger would later score on a Bryce Adams single.
New Castle pulled ahead 4-2 in the top of the third inning after hitting two home runs. The Millers responded with six runs in the bottom of the third. Bryce Riggs tied the game with a two-RBI single (scoring Adams and Josh Kern), then Dean White doubled in Luke Wilson and Riggs. Mason Bohland scored on Kazmierski’s RBI groundout, and Niswonger put Noblesville up 8-4 by doubling home White.
The Millers never trailed again. In the fifth inning, Kazmierski tripled in Bohland, then later scored on a wild pitch. Bohland finished the scoring in the sixth inning by hitting a double to score Riggs.
Adams and Bohland both had three hits for the game. Niswonger got the pitching win, while Jared Crandall got the save.
On Tuesday, Noblesville cruised past Lapel 11-1 in five innings. Conner Bloss hit a first-inning grand slam to put the Millers up 5-0.
Adams had two hits and batted in two runs, while Kazmierski scored three runs. Bohland hit a triple. Nolan Decker pitched a complete game, striking out six.
Noblesville is 6-9 and host Westfield on Thursday to begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series.

Fishers took care of Pendleton Heights 8-2 in a Tuesday home game.
The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Jack Braun doubled in Fishers’ first run, scoring Carson Dunn. Gavin Clayton singled Braun home, then later scored on Jack Brown’s RBI fielder’s choice. Matt Bryant got home on an error, then Joey Brenczewski scored on Dom Oliverio’s RBI groundout.
In the third inning, Braun got home when Brenczewski hit a sacrifice fly. It was Braun’s turn to hit the sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and that scored Oliverio. Braun got another RBI in the sixth inning when he singled in Dunn.
Braun was 3-for-3 at the plate and totaled three RBIs, also scoring two runs. Oliverio and Clayton both had two hits, including a double for Oliverio. Mason Sweeney got the pitching win, Joey Wilmoth threw five strikeouts in relief.
The Tigers are 10-7 and begin the Mudsock series Thursday at Hamilton Southeastern’s Ken Seitz Field.

Hamilton Heights cruised to a 9-1 Hoosier Conference victory at Northwestern on Tuesday.
The Huskies got on the board in the third inning when Lucas Letsinger and Jared Michael scored after Erik Malott reached on error. Heights added three more runs in the fourth inning: Brayden Elkin singled in Drew VanOeveren, then headed home when Dean Mason hit a home run into right field.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Huskies responded with four runs in the seventh. Malott doubled in Sam Allen, Michael scored on a wild pitch, Malott went home on Elkin’s RBI groundout, and Nate Hulen scored when Brody Piel reached on error.
Malott finished the game 3-for-4. Michael pitched a complete game for the win, striking out 12.
Heights is 7-6 for the season.

University split a pair of games to begin the week.
On Monday, the Class 2A No. 8 Trailblazers sailed past Bethesda Christian 18-1 in five innings. Seth Hogg went 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in three runs, while Brady Redman also drove in three runs. Jake Hooker and Hogg both hit a triple. Grady Hay got the pitching win.
University lost a tough one on Tuesday, falling to Park Tudor 2-1 in eight innings. The ‘Blazers scored their run in the top of the third inning when Luke Hellman tripled in Hooker. Tyler Galyean and Hooker both had two hits.
