Baseball: Millers begin the week with two victories

The Noblesville baseball team blasted through the second inning and that led to an 8-1 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win Monday over Hamilton Southeastern at the Royals’ Ken Seitz Field, giving the Millers a conference sweep..
Noblesville scored one run in the first inning; Kolbi Kazmierski got home when Bryce Adams drew a bases-loaded walk. Noblesville then got going in the second inning: Kamzierski singled in Bryce Riggs, Luke Wilson scored on Mason Bohland’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Dean White got home on an error. Bohland later scored when Josh Kern drew a bases-loaded walk, then Riggs singled in Drew Niswonger and Keegan Speek. Kern later scored on an error.
Southeastern scored its run in the fourth inning when Cole Earlewine got home on Eli Miller’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Kazmierski had two hits for the Millers. Lucas Stephen pitched a complete game, striking out five. Wilson doubled for Noblesville, while Earlewine hit a double for HSE.
On Tuesday, the Millers won a road game at Kokomo 5-2. Noblesville scored two runs in the second inning; White and Speek got home after Kern reached on error. Kern then singled in Adams and White in the third inning. Wilson scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Kazmierski had two hits. Jared Crandall struck out six in two and two-thirds innings to get the win.
The Millers are 11-12 and play Thursday at Brownsburg, while the Royals are 10-13-1 and play Thursday at Westfield.

Carmel jumped to No. 2 in this week’s Class 4A baseball polls, and the Greyhounds had a tough test for their first game with that ranking: 4A No. 3 Center Grove in a Metropolitan Conference contest.
The two teams battled it out for nine innings before Alex Richter drew a bases-loaded walk to send JD Rogers home and give Carmel a 4-3 victory. The win keeps the ‘Hounds unbeaten in the MIC at 10-0-1.
The Trojans scored a run in the top of the first inning. Carmel answered with a run in the second; Richter singled in Jackson Micheels.
In the sixth inning, Connor Gioia scored when Daniel Cunningham reached on error. Lleyton Lukowski later scored on a wild pitch. Center Grove scored twice in the seventh inning, and the score remained 3-3 until the ninth inning.
Micheels had two hits for Carmel. Cameron Heaney pitched six innings for the win.
The Greyhounds are 18-1-1 and finish the MIC series at Center Grove tonight.

Hamilton Heights is now a top 10 team in Class 3A, entering the rankings at No. 9 this week.
The Huskies celebrated with two wins to begin the week. On Monday, Heights beat Madison-Grant 2-1. Sam Allen hit a walkoff double in the second inning to score Brayden Elkin and keep the Huskies’ win streak going.
Allen also batted in Elkin in the third inning on an RBI groundout. Allen finished 2-for-4, hitting two doubles.
Lucas Letsinger got the win in relief, pitching two innings. Drew VanOeveren, threw the first five innings, striking out seven.
Heights overwhelmed Anderson 14-1 on Tuesday. Allen and Hulen both had three hits and drove in three runs, with Nate Hulen also batting in three runs. Allen scored three runs as well.
The Huskies are 14-6, having won 14 games in a row. Heights plays Thursday at Mount Vernon.

Fishers got down early but fought back against Yorktown in a Monday game before falling 7-5.
Yorktown scored five runs in the first inning and led 6-0 after three. Fishers got on the board in the fourth inning when Carson Dunn scored on a wild pitch and Jack Brown got home on a passed ball.
Yorktown added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Fishers scored three in the top of the fifth. Joey Brenczewski batted in Matt Bryant, then Dunn hit a triple to score Brenczewski. Dunn got home on Brown’s RBI groundout. That brought Fishers within two, but Yorktown was able to hang on for the win.
Fishers is 13-11 and plays an HCC game Thursday at Franklin Central.

The Shamrocks scored three runs in the first inning, starting with an RBI single from Keaton Mahan to send Trey Dorton home. Casey Fanelli then doubled in Quentin Markle and Mahan.
In the second inning, Mahan smacked a double to get Jack Woodard and Markle home. Westfield completed its scoring in the fifth inning; Cody South got home after Isaac Minder reached on error.
Mahan and Fanelli both had two hits. Kade Robinson got the pitching win.
The Shamrocks are 14-3-1 and host Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday.
