INDIANAPOLIS – The Hamilton Heights baseball team fell in the championship game of Class 3A Sectional 27 Monday, losing to host Bishop Chatard 12-1 in five innings.

The home team Trojans scored in every inning in which they batted, starting with four runs in the first inning. Chatard got on the board with a fielder’s choice, then added three runs after a bases-load triple.

Cooper Vondersaar scored the Huskies’ run in the second inning. Kyle Michael was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then Vondersaar came in to run for him. Vondersaar advanced to second base on a wild pitch, moved to third after Dillon Pitts hit a sacrifice fly, then scored on a pitcher’s balk.

The Trojans scored two runs in the second inning, then added three runs each in both the third and fourth innings. Heights was held to two hits, one in the first inning from Adam Hughes and the other in the second inning by Phoenix Vondersaar.

“It was a tough game,” said Huskies coach Ryan VanOeveren. “We started off rough, handed them some runs, they put the ball in play and we just wouldn’t make the routine plays.”

Heights finished the season 14-12.

“There were some really good games,” said VanOeveren. “We had some fun and we had a couple games like this where we just couldn’t make the plays. We have a pretty young crew of kids here with a lot of returning players next year.” The coach said those players got “a lot of experience” during the season, “which means that hopefully next year they come back even better.”
