Guerin Catholic got its bats going in the fourth inning, and that sent the Golden Eagles to an 11-5 winner over Park Tudor Wednesday at the Golden Eagles’ field.
Guerin Catholic scored one run each in the second and third innings. Dominic Ferrucci scored the first run on an error, then Nate Bingman got home when Jordan Schaaf drew a bases-loaded walk. That tied the game at 2-2, and the Panthers doubled in a run in the top of the fourth to lead 3-2. But with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles scored eight consecutive runs.
Keenan Taylor scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Max Engelking singled in Luke Godfrey, which put Guerin Catholic in front for good. The bases were loaded, and the next batter, Schaaf, got hit by a pitch. That got Braden Reel in to score.
Wes Gingerich was next, and he sent a two-RBI hit into center field, getting Lewandowski and Engelking home. Taylor then smacked a double into left field, bringing Schaaf and Gingerich home. Finally, Taylor scored when Ely reached on an error, giving the Golden Eagles a 10-3 lead.
“It was good,” said GC coach Rich Andriole. “There were obviously areas that I wish we had played a little better in.”
Guerin Catholic scored one more run in the sixth inning, when Taylor doubled home Gingerich. That was Taylor’s third double of the game. Reel and Gingerich both had two hits.
Ely got the pitching win, throwing the fourth and fifth innings in relief.
The Golden Eagles are 14-2 and play Friday at Jasper.
