Balanced ‘Blazers pick up 19th win

The fifth-ranked Class 2A University Trailblazers won their 19th game of the season Tuesday night with a comfortable 55-30 win over Irvington Prep Academy at The U Center.
University took control by scoring the first 16 points of the second quarter to open up a 25-7 lead and cruised to the victory. 14 Trailblazers played and ten scored.
Korey Ash-Simpson and Joe Martin had nine points each to lead University’s scoring. Sam Mervis had eight points and Max Greenamoyer, Jacob Sager and Larry Pierce each had six in the balanced Trailblazer attack.
University had 32 rebounds, led by six from Camden Brown. Faizan Eskar and Pierce each collected five caroms.
“We are happy to be 19-4,” said University coach Brandon Lafferman. “We are excited for our senior night on Thursday.” University hosts 14-7 Indianapolis Bishop Chatard Thursday to close out the regular season.
Irvington Prep falls to 8-13 on the season.
