Ardith Ann Sutton

January 18, 1948 – November 11, 2025

Ardith Ann Sutton, 77, Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 11, 2025, at Copper Trace Senior Living in Westfield. Born January 18, 1948, in Noblesville, she was the daughter of the late Orval Leroy and Chloe Joan (Harris) Thomas.

She attended the Sheridan First Christian Church and was a member of the Sheridan chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Ardith attended Sheridan High School and later attended the J. Everett Light Career Center, where she earned her associate’s degree in nursing to become an LPN. She started her career at Maple Park Village in Westfield before making the move to the Sheridan Healthcare Center. Ardith was a dedicated caregiver to her patients, in every sense of the word. Working at a healthcare center in your hometown gives you a unique perspective into your patients’ lives. Families were able to take comfort knowing that Ardith was looking after their loved ones and knew she would be an advocate for their care.

Family was the most important thing in Ardith’s life. She took an active role in her children’s lives, including coaching girls’ softball for several years. When it was the grandkids’ turn, they couldn’t have asked for a better cheerleader and supporter. She was their number one fan. The rest of the family quickly learned that the rules didn’t apply when she was around; grandma’s rules were the only ones that we were playing by.

Ardith was a huge football fan, especially when it came to the Colts, but she also liked baseball and basketball. She also loved Halloween, maybe a little too much. Trick or treat was heavy on the trick side, and it didn’t seem to stop on November 1. Ardith loved a good joke, and she loved playing jokes on family and friends even more. Nobody was safe, and you never knew when it was coming. Ardith also loved shopping, finding new places to eat, and getting to spend time with her best friend Vicki.

With a true servant’s heart, Ardith would do anything for anybody. She will be dearly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have her in their life.

Ardith is survived by three sons, Ronald James “Jim” Smith, Jr. of Thorntown, Larry W. Sutton II of Sheridan, and Lance W. Sutton of Sheridan; daughter, Ronnica Jo Radband (Kevin) of Snellville, Ga.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne A. Thomas (Charmayne) of Sheridan and Keith A. Thomas (Margaret) of Deputy, Ind.; and her sister, Lisa Wilson of Indianapolis.

She is preceded in death by parents, Orval Leroy and Chloe Joan (Harris) Thomas; daughter-in-law, Julie Ann Sutton; three brothers; two sisters; her dog, Mr. Tibbs; and by her husband, Larry Wayne Sutton on December 29, 2005. She and Larry were married on May 31, 1971.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will follow at Boxley Cemetery in Boxley, Ind. Pastor J.V. Stover will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers (and in recognition of Ardith being allergic to them), please donate to your favorite charity and think of her as you give.
