Are you curious about what it’s really like to work in law enforcement? The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is now accepting applications for the Fall 2025 Citizens Academy, a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at how deputies serve and protect the community.

This engaging, 12-week program invites residents and people who work in Hamilton County to step into the world of law enforcement through interactive training and firsthand experiences, including:

  • Mock traffic stops and scenario-based exercises: step into the role of an officer in realistic situations
  • Criminal investigations and case law: explore how cases are built and handled legally
  • Firearms training: learn about gun safety and tactical applications at the range
  • Patrol vehicle operations: drive a patrol car on a controlled driving course
  • … and much more

Program schedule

  • Dates: Sept. 4 to Nov. 20
  • Time: Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free to attend

Who can apply?

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must live or work in Hamilton County
  • No felony convictions; no misdemeanors within the past year (background checks required)
  • Must be able to attend all sessions and sign required waivers
