Dear HSE Community,
When Patrick Mapes became the Superintendent of Hamilton Southeastern Schools in February of last year, our district was in a time of need. The challenges facing our district required strong leadership, deep educational expertise, and someone who could restore confidence in our school system.
In the 18 months since Mr. Mapes took over, his leadership has put the district back on an upward trajectory that we should all be pleased with. As someone who brings more than 30 years of public education experience, Mr. Mapes has demonstrated exactly the kind of strong leadership skills and deep knowledge of Indiana’s education environment that our board prioritized when conducting our search.
In his time leading HSE, Mr. Mapes has put students first every step of the way. The recent ILEARN and IREAD results speak for themselves, especially compared to where the scores were prior to Mr. Mapes’ hiring. These academic improvements reflect not only his commitment to educational excellence but also his ability to work effectively with our dedicated teaching staff to implement meaningful instructional strategies.
Under Mr. Mapes’ leadership, our district has regained stability and direction. He has successfully developed the strong connections with HSE students, staff, and families that our board sought, while maintaining the enthusiasm and vision necessary to move our district forward.
Given the significant progress made under Mr. Mapes’ superintendency and the continued need for stable, experienced leadership, the Board of School Trustees will be considering a contract extension proposal for Superintendent Mapes at our September meeting.
We believe that extending Mr. Mapes’ contract is crucial in providing the stable and continuous leadership that our district needs to build upon the positive momentum we’ve established. His proven track record, both here at HSE and throughout his distinguished career in Indiana education, positions our district for continued success.
The board remains committed to ensuring that Hamilton Southeastern Schools provides the highest quality educational opportunities for all our students. We believe that Mr. Mapes’ continued leadership is essential to achieving this goal.
