Local legislators recently welcomed Carmel students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program.

“The page program is a unique opportunity to witness session and learn more about how laws are made,” said State Rep. Jerry Torr (R-Carmel). “I always enjoy seeing students engage in state government and ask questions about Indiana’s history.”

As pages, the students assisted lawmakers and staff with daily duties, toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, and joined lawmakers on the House floor to witness and learn about the legislative process.

“Paging gives students the chance to spend the day at the Statehouse and interact with their local representatives,” said State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel). “It’s always exciting to meet our future leaders and teach them about the legislative process.”

These Carmel students served as pages during the 2023 legislative session:

  • Cross Adams attends Guerin Catholic High School
  • Pav Casaponsa attends Indiana Digital School
  • Imogen Catlin attends Creekside Middle School
  • Ridhi Dondeti attends Carmel High School
  • Natalie Fernandez attends Guerin Catholic High School
  • Daniel Hendrix attends Cathedral High School;
  • Kayden Myatt (pictured with State Rep. Michelle Davis of Whiteland) attends Ring Lardner Middle School in Michigan
  • Ellie Wilt attends Guerin Catholic High School

State Rep. Chuck Goodrich (R-Noblesville) said students ages 13 to 18 should consider participating during the 2024 legislative session.

“Visiting the Statehouse gives young Hoosiers a closer look at the legislative process and the ability to interact with their elected representatives,” Goodrich said. “This experience is a great way for students to bring their history and government books to life.”
