D1 Training, a leading fitness concept utilizing the five core tenets of athletic-based training, will open a new location on Monday, May 15 at 650 W. Carmel Drive, Suite 120, Carmel. The group fitness facility employs a sports-science backed training regimen led by certified trainers to help people of all ages achieve their sport and fitness goals.

In celebration of the new location’s launch, Carmel neighbors and residents are encouraged to stop by and meet the facility’s team at its grand opening event on Saturday, May 20, which will feature discounted membership rates for a limited time.

D1 Training in Carmel will be the second location owned by franchisees Tayt Odom and Jeff Peterson, keeping them among the ranks of current franchisees and owners some of which include professional athletes such as Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, Tim Tebow and Michael Oher. Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback and Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning played college football with D1 Training’s founder and is a professional athlete partner for the brand.

Prior to launching Carmel’s D1 Training, Odom and Peterson opened another D1 Training in Finch Creek in 2020, where they have watched kids, adults, and coaches flourish as athletes and human beings.

“When I partnered with Jeff, we knew we wanted to get involved in a business that has an impact on people,” Odom said. “Working with D1 Training has given us the opportunity to empower kids, adults, and our coaching team to be the versions of themselves they aspire to be. We are proud to bring D1 to Carmel to help people work on their individual goals, while building a community around the shared mission that so many people have when it comes to fitness and sports.”

In addition to franchising in the fitness space, the duo owns 11 Smart Style Salons across Indiana, but a career in franchising was not always the plan for Odom. He unearthed a love of coaching during his college years at Notre Dame. When he graduated, he was torn between pursuing a career in coaching or a profession in business. He chose the latter and spent 20 years working at an employee-benefit consulting and actuarial company, culminating in a role as COO. Around 2020, Odom realized it was time for a change. He decided to venture down the path he passed up in his twenties and now works an assistant football coach and business teacher at Bishop Chatard High School. Through his franchised D1 Training facilities in Finch Creek and now Carmel, Odom can pair his love of business with his passion for working with athletes.

D1 Carmel offers four age-based programs including Rookie (ages 7 to 11), Developmental (ages 12 to 14), Prep (ages 15 to 18) and D1 Adult. Each fitness program is based on the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down. Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers one-on-one training with world-class coaches. The goal is simple: to continue to train athletes who are dedicated to their sport or their fitness goals, regardless of age or athletic background.

“Tayt and Jeff are the perfect entrepreneurial team to bring the D1 Training experience to Carmel,” the brand’s Chief Operating Officer Dan Murphy said. “We’re thrilled to see these two continue to grow with the D1 family and are confident in their ability to show the Carmel area what they’ve been missing out on. D1 is a one-of-a-kind fitness experience that’s built around the individual and meant to help people meet their appropriate edge. Our strong network of franchisees embodies our core values to bring the D1 Training vision to life, and we know this team will do just that in Carmel and its surrounding communities.”

Strategically expanding across the nation through franchising, D1 Training has more than 60 performance centers open with over 120 additional locations in development. The brand is currently seeking qualified and active community members to expand its footprint and help more people meet their fitness goals.
