County golf teams have great weekend

The Westfield boys golf team emerged out of a loaded field to win Lebanon’s Kent Fransden Ulen Invitational, which took place Saturday.

The No. 1-ranked Shamrocks scored 284, one of three teams to break 300 at the event. Guerin Catholic was the runner-up team with a 288, while Evansville North placed third with a 292.

Westfield had four golfers finish in the top 11. Alec Cesare and Will Harvey tied for second place individually with one-under par 69s, while Cam Kooi and Matt Shull were part of a five-way tie for seventh place, scoring 73s. Jake Cesare rounded out the Shamrocks’ scoring with a 76.

Alec Cesare and Harvey both made three birdies, while Kooi eagled the 14th hole, in addition to two birdies. Shull also made two birdies, with Jake Cesare getting one.

The Golden Eagles had the meet medalist. Jacob Modleski scored a two-under par 68, with two birdies and all the other holes par. Leo Wessel was part of a three-way tie for fourth place by scoring a 72, while Owen Nielsen joined the seventh-place tie with a 73. Wessel made four birdies and Nielsen had one.

Eli Wessel carded a 75, draining three birdies. Zach Thieme scored an 80.

Brebeuf Jesuit was the fourth-place team with a 302, followed by Carmel in fifth place with a 308. Joseph Armfield was another golfer in the seventh-place tie with a 73; he made one birdie.

Other Greyhounds scores were Austin Kent 77, Mason Price 79, Daniel Montgomery 79 and Ethan Hoagland 80. Price and Hoagland both finished with one birdie.

Hamilton Southeastern sent a team to Ulen and placed seventh with a 317. Royals scores were Tyler Macinko 76, Jordan Huxford 77, Jack Finwall 81, Chuck Putnam 83 and Evan Stack 87. Marcinko, Huxford, Finwall and Stack all made one birdie.

Hamilton Southeastern’s Varsity A team traveled to Rock Hollow in Peru for the Hall of Fame Tournament, and won the championship.

The Royals emerged victorious in a close finish, scoring a 308. Bloomington South was the runner-up with a 309, while Homestead carded a 310.

Cole Starnes was the individual runner-up with a two-under par 70. Other Southeastern scores were Lane Zedrick 76, Kai Warner 80, Nate Benson 82 and Mattingly Upchurch 85.

Noblesville joined the winner’s circle by triumphing at the Winchester Invitational at Winchester Golf Club.

The Millers were the team champions with a score of 296. Cooper Claussen led the Noblesville team with a 71, placing him third individually. Alex Peck, Will Barnes and Jackson Umthum all scored 75s, while Brady Mangin carded a 76.

In addition, three Millers golfers played as individuals. Drew Werkley scored a 67, winning him medalist honors, while Rory Bushong took second place with a 70. Drew Decker carded a 73.

Westfield sent a team to Winchester, and finished second with a 299. Ryan Cesare and Cohen Steill both had 73s for the ‘Rocks, followed by Jack Harris 74, Mitchell Keene 79 and Brody Eureste 84.

Fishers played two teams at the Trinity Cougar Invitational, with its Red team winning the championship by scoring 323.

Tommy Klinker scored a 78, placing him fourth individually. Will Major finished seventh with an 80, Sam Keithley placed eighth by carding an 82, and Henry Keithley took 10th with an 83. Ryan Stewart scored an 85.

The Tigers’ Silver team scored 354. Ethan Poto placed ninth with an 82, followed by Tristan Coy 88, Lucas Brown 90, Carson Peters 94 and Grant Case 97.
