The Guerin Catholic baseball team came back to beat North Central 5-4 Tuesday at Grand Park.
The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Class 3A No. 3 Golden Eagles got a run back in the top of the third; Nolan Ratcliff scored on Davis Wagner’s RBI fielder’s choice.
North Central added a run in the bottom of the third to lead 3-1. Guerin Catholic took the lead in the top of the fifth inning with three runs. Ian Taylor batted in Ratcliff with a left field base hit. Later, Will Fremion got home when Cuinn Morrow hit a sacrifice fly, and Taylor scored on an error. With that, the Golden Eagles led 4-3.
The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning at 4-4. Guerin Catholic got the go-ahead run in the sixth inning when Taylor tripled in Ratcliff. North Central had two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, but a Golden Eagles double play finished the game.
Taylor had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3. AJ Nunley hit a triple, and Grant Beard hit a single. Morrow got the win in relief, pitching three innings. Starter Ryan Zimmerman went four innings, striking out four.
Guerin Catholic is 15-1 for the season. The Golden Eagles host 2A No. 5 Park Tudor this afternoon.
