Lacrosse: Hamilton Southeastern girls get Mudsock Trophy

The Hamilton Southeastern girls lacrosse team won the Mudsock Trophy on Thursday by beating Fishers 20-5.

The Royals defense kept the Tigers to three goals in the first half and two in the second half. Seniors Alex Dean, Sydney Schena and Alexis Green, along with junior Emma Kraus, led the defense on Thursday night. Dean recorded an interception with Green coming up with a ground ball. Schena, once again, helped on offense with a goal in her second straight game. Senior goalie Kara Jaynes had a solid night, coming up with nine saves on 14 shots.

The offense was led by juniors Sidney Sloan and Jessie Lyons along with sophomore Sarah Gastineau. Sloan and Lyons ended the game with eight points each. Sloan was 6 for 6 on shot attempts and added two assists while Lyons finished the game with five assists to go along with a 3-for-3 night on shot attempts.

Gastineau recorded five points on the night with four goals with an assist. Senior Ellie Nawa and junior Brooke Daugherty both had two goals each with Nawa adding two assists and Daugherty adding one. Nawa made 13 draw controls. Freshman Samantha Kim and sophomore Reese Bradley finished scoring with a goal each. Kim also had a draw control with Bradley adding a ground ball and an interception.

Emma Reichert collected three ground balls and had one assist. Edie Fisher dished out two assists, and Olivia Bradley had one assist and one forced turnover.

Southeastern hosts No. 1-ranked Carmel on Thursday, with the junior varsity at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.
