American Structurepoint has earned a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for exceptional engineering excellence for a project laying the groundwork for a new multi-billion-dollar hospital and healthcare campus in downtown Indianapolis.

The 2023 ACEC National Engineering Excellence Awards recognized American Structurepoint for its solution to relocate and upgrade multiple utility lines in an urban area.

To launch the 44-acre healthcare development into motion, eight utilities required relocation, including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, drinking water, chilled water, steam, natural gas, electric, and telecommunication lines. One of the project’s more complex components involved removing a 66-inch storm sewer 20 feet below a major downtown intersection and installing a new 72-inch storm sewer.

The project also received an Honor Award (first place) from ACEC Indiana.

American Structurepoint provided campus master planning, utility infrastructure engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, land surveying, environmental services, roadway and traffic engineering, and stakeholder coordination for the project. Bowen Engineering served as a design-build partner and the project’s general contractor.

“Our firm is honored to have provided our engineering expertise for this project to pave the way for construction of a new healthcare district that will improve the quality of life and provide state-of-the-art care for future generations of Hoosiers,” American Structurepoint President Rick Conner said.
