Softball: Two-thirds of local teams come out on top Tuesday

Guerin Catholic overwhelmed Cardinal Ritter 24-4 in a five-inning game Tuesday.

The host Golden Eagles scored six runs in all four innings. Lucy Kemp hit two triples as part of her 3-for-4 night. She batted scored four runs and batted in two. Grace Zirkelbach also hit a triple; she had two runs scored, two hits and two RBIs. Natalie Eiler was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Lauren Brady and Kate Brady both scored four runs, while Madi Cain got three runs. Eiler got the pitching win.

The Golden Eagles are 1-2 and host Brebeuf Jesuit Thursday to begin Circle City Conference play.

Hamilton Southeastern rolled past Zionsville 10-0 on Tuesday to begin Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

The Royals led 4-0 after five innings, then finished the game with six runs in the sixth inning. Ava Kiemeyer hit a home run, totaling three RBIs for the game. Lani Wyrick was 3-for-3, including a double, while Morgan Hicks and Stephanie Penny also hit one double each. Wyrick scored three runs. Addy Justice and Madi Yankauskas both had two hits.

Grace Swedarsky pitched all six innings, tossing 15 strikeouts.

Southeastern is 7-1 and hosts New Palestine on Thursday.

Sheridan blasted Herron 23-10 on Tuesday for its first win of the season.

Chaney Smith drove in six runs, while Maelei Casler pitched strong in the final three innings.

The Blackhawks are 1-4 and play this afternoon at Bishop Chatard.

Westfield took care of Brownsburg 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday to win its HCC opener.

The Shamrocks led 7-0 after four innings, then completed the game with a three-run home run from Ava Kainrath in the sixth inning. Maggie Roh and Makayla Watson both had two hits, with Roh scoring three runs. Grace Fanelli drove in two runs. Chloe Tanner pitched all six innings, with six strikeouts.

Westfield is 4-1 and hosts Greenfield-Central this afternoon.

Carmel dropped an 8-3 game against Lawrence North Tuesday at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex.

The Greyhounds scored a run in the first inning; Hope McDonald went home on Lily Sullivan’s sacrifice fly. Carmel added two more runs in the third inning. McDonald got on base with a double, then Sophie Esposito was hit by a pitch. Sullivan then sent a base hit into center field to score them both. Carmel led 3-0, but the Wildkats got on the board in the fifth inning, then took the lead with five runs in the sixth.

McDonald finished the game with two hits. Lucy Broughton pitched a complete game, striking out five.

The Greyhounds are 1-3 and host Noblesville this afternoon.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 6-1 game at Western in a Tuesday Hoosier Conference East Division game.

The Huskies scored their run in the fifth inning when Melanee Forrester’s single sent Taya Trosper home. Lily Roush pitched all six innings for Heights, with 10 strikeouts.

The Huskies are 3-2 and host Western tonight to complete the division series.
