Softball: Huskies win big over Anderson

The Hamilton Heights softball scored a big-hitting win over Anderson Thursday, sailing to a 12-4 victory at Grand Park.

The Indians scored one run in the top of the first inning, but the Huskies answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Isabel Morrow and Lily Roush both hit singles, with Morrow later scoring on a wild pitch. Roush got home on Kaylee Rhoton’s RBI groundout. Emma Blanton singled in Melanee Forrester, and Kassidy Schakel scored when Karma Collier drew a bases-loaded walk.

In the second inning, Collier batted in Schakel, then Savannah Warwick scored on Lily Cash’s RBI groundout. Schakel was back in the fourth inning, and her triple brought in Roush to make the score 7-1.

Anderson scored two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to get within 7-4. But Heights pulled away in the bottom of the sixth with five more runs. Warwick singled in Rhoton, then Collier’s center field hit scored Schakel and Warwick. Vivian Lynch scored on an error, then Cash got home on a wild pitch.

Warwick and Collier both were 3-for-3 at the plate. Cash, Morrow, Roush, Melanee Forrester, Rhoton, Schakel and Blanton each had one hit. Roush pitched a complete game, with 12 strikeouts against three hits and one walk.

The Huskies are 2-1 and play Saturday morning at Maconaquah.
