The Hamilton Southeastern softball team won an all-county softball game 5-3 at Carmel’s Cherry Tree Softball Complex on Tuesday.
It was the season-opening game for both teams. The Royals got on the board right away, as Payton Fox hit a two-run home run with one out in the first inning. The homer also scored Addy Justice, who had gotten on base with a single.
Hope McDonald got a run back for the Greyhounds in the bottom of the first when she singled in Sophie Esposito. McDonald then smacked a double in the third inning, and was sent home right away when Lily Sullivan hit a two-run homer and gave Carmel a 3-2 lead.
Southeastern got back in front during the fourth inning with three runs. Justice nailed a triple to left field, also scoring Tessa Sexauer. Fox came up next, and she singled home Justice for her third RBI of the day.
Freshman pitcher Grace Swedarsky threw 16 strikeouts in her HSE high school debut. McDonald delivered three hits for Carmel.
The Royals play this afternoon at North Central, while the ‘Hounds play at North Central.
