The Sheridan Student Column is brought to readers by Sheridan High School’s 10th grade English class, taught by Abby Williams.
After years of planning, followed by breaking ground last summer, the fieldhouse at Sheridan Community Schools is starting to take shape. Over the last few months, the students have watched the bleachers at Bud Wright Stadium come down and the steel beams of new construction going up.
According to the Lebanon Reporter, the new 32,000 square-foot facility will be home to two new gyms, two classrooms, a weight room, and fitness center. There will also be locker rooms that will be used for physical education classes, as well as by the football team. A concession area will also be included.
In previous articles it has been stated that the fieldhouse is just the first phase of the expansion at Sheridan. Moving forward, the school plans to have all athletic facilities and teams back on campus. It is intended to also provide more space for our fine arts department.
As the Sheridan community continues to grow, we will need additional space. The space provided by the fieldhouse, as well as the space that will be freed up in the high school and middle school, will be vital. With new housing additions being built both in town and in nearby rural areas, the student population will be steadily increasing in the coming years. Furthermore, the number of students isn’t predicted to slow down any time soon.
As a student athlete, I’m looking forward to the changes the fieldhouse will bring. The new facilities will be an improvement for the growth of Sheridan athletes and their recovery. The new weight room and other facilities are a very exciting prospect for someone who utilizes them often. With the expansion and additions in both athletics and fine arts, I believe that the updates and changes to our facilities will create new opportunities for all current and future students at Sheridan Community Schools, athlete or not.
