Huskies split games at East Central

Hamilton Heights split its games at the East Central Tournament on Thursday.
In first-round action, the Class 3A No. 10 Huskies fell to the host Trojans 26-22. Heights led 7-0 after the first quarter, but East Central outscored the Huskies in the other three periods. The Trojans were within 10-8 at halftime and took a 20-17 lead after three quarters.
Bayleigh Runner led Heights with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Ana Collar grabbed five rebounds and Kayla Kirtley made two blocked shots.
The Huskies beat Seymour 56-49 in their second game of the day. The score was knotted at 24-24 at halftime, but the Huskies took control by outscoring Seymour 14-8 in the third quarter.
Lexi Branham had an incredible shooting game, making five 3-pointers on her way to 23 points. Runner threw in three more 3s; she finished with 16 points. The Huskies made 11 3-pointers in all.
Lauryn Wiley had 10 rebounds.
Heights is now 7-6 and will play Richmond in the tournament’s fifth-place game at 2 p.m. today.
