Carmel Christian Church Pastor Jerry Zehr will receive the Interfaith Ambassador of the Year 2023 award from the Center of Interfaith Cooperation at the organization’s annual banquet on Sunday, March 19 at the Indiana Ballroom.

The award is given to faith leaders who work hard to bridge the differences among all faiths and cultures in central Indiana. Zehr is the author of The Peacemaker’s Path: Multifaith Reflections to Deepen Your Spirituality, a book he spent years researching before publishing it in 2021.

Zehr was a leader in interfaith ministries for more than 30 years. He helped launch four interfaith organizations including the Carmel Interfaith Alliance and the Indiana Multifaith Network. Zehr lives in Carmel with his wife.

In a world where anti-Semitism and other faith-based discrimination and hateful actions are seen across the country, Zehr offers a voice of peace as we all try to get along with one another in the great melting pot of central Indiana.

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard will serve as co-chair of the event, and other community leaders will be there. Between 450 and 500 people are expected to attend.
