Three new members added; Club donates $5K for earthquake relief

On Thursday, the Westfield Lions added three more members to their growing club.

Past District Governor Bob Benson, a Lion for over 53 years, conducted the initiation ceremony for Jerry Kirby, Kathy Kahler, and Jim Kahler. The three new Lions are relatively new residents of Westfield and are looking for ways to serve in their growing community. Lion Carrie Larrison, who joined the Club in January, is the sponsor for all three new Lions.

Also at the meeting, the Club’s board of directors approved a $5,000 donation for Lions Clubs International Foundation’s (LCIF) disaster relief efforts for the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria. LCIF, one of the world’s top-rated foundations serving those in need, is making aggressive efforts to provide desperately needed relief and support for those affected by the disaster.

Each year, the Club donates at least $2,500 to LCIF, and in the past, the Club has made special donations to LCIF for relief efforts for the survivors of tsunamis, hurricanes, forest fires, and tornadoes.

LCIF has received a four-star rating by Charity Navigator for its effectiveness and for the fact that 100 percent of the funds it collects go to assisting those in need. If you would like to donate to LCIF to assist with disaster relief efforts, go to lionsclubs.org/en/donate.
