Noble C. Butler IV

June 24, 1935 – February 15, 2023

Noble C. Butler IV, 87, Cicero, passed away at home on February 15, 2023, in the presence of his beloved wife, Jarunee. He was born June 24, 1935, in Anderson, Ind., to Noble Butler III and Roberta (Towell) Butler.

In his childhood, he grew up in the Indianapolis area and graduated from Shortridge High School. He then attended Purdue Extension and Lane Drafting College. He loved working on hot rods and sailing on the water as a part of Sea Scouts. He joined the U.S. National Guard in December 1953 and served for 12 years. Toby welcomed his son Noble (Budd) Butler V in 1959. He enjoyed and raised his son and stepsons, David and Michael Glessner.

He began working with his brother Bob in what became Butler Body Shop. He was the General Service Manager, but also became a reserve officer for the Cicero Police Department in November of 1977. He rose to become the head of the reserve department with the rank of Captain in 1981. He was a master scuba diver. Toby coordinated the creation of an underwater rescue and recovery team for the department and became the leader of that team, which included his stepson David. Toby resigned from the department in 1995 to pursue other ventures. Toby also worked for a short time for the Arcadia police department and Shorewood Security.

He married Jarunee Ratanarome on October 5, 1994, who survives him.  Also surviving are his son Noble (Budd) Butler V of Trafalgar, Ind., a stepson David Glessner of Cicero, a stepdaughter Janet Balasiri Singleterry, brother Robert Butler of Carmel, and grandchildren Lane VanSchepen, Richard Glessner, Jody Butler, and Nayeli Barragan Sandoval, and great-grandchildren Brody Bryant and Troi Butler.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with Pastor Allen Gross  officiating. A time of visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the service. There will be Celebration of Life Reception at Red Bridge Community Center, 697 W. Jackson St., Cicero, after the service.
