Dillinger

Rex Dillinger has had a life full of diverse experiences. From reserve police officer to minister to entrepreneur, his philosophy has always been to enjoy relationships, the outdoors, and laughter over work and money.

His debut fiction novel, A Conscious Choice to Love, takes place in Noblesville and Hamilton County. It tells the story of fictional character Scott Andrews, who comes to realize if you thoughtfully choose those who stand beside you, you never walk alone.

Here’s the synopsis of the book:

Leaving the sheltered cocoon of his conservative upbringing, Scott eagerly explores the freedoms of college in the 1970s as he delves into a lifestyle of partying and sex. But the party ends abruptly when Scott’s girlfriend becomes pregnant and leaves him.

Devastated by her choices, and questioning the lifestyle that he has been leading, Scott sees only one way forward – to return to his hometown and begin his life anew.

For real estate agent Sally Johnson, her father’s abandonment left a scar on her soul, making the young woman a target for the advances of a much older employer. Now, with a child born of the affair, Sally is determined to protect her heart and her daughter.

Having rebuilt their lives, the one thing Scott and Sally are missing is someone to love. When fate intervenes, bringing the pair together by chance, it sets in motion a lifelong love. But even soulmates must face heartache, disappointments, and hard choices.

And, as they continue their journey through the decades ahead, both must decide what it means to be a family and if choosing to love is really enough.

More about Rex Dillinger

Dillinger grew up in Noblesville, where he served on the Common Council and lost a primary election for mayor by 10 votes. The fact that he is related to the gangster, John Dillinger, has always been a topic of conversation and ice breaker.

He has three children and seven grandchildren (three sets of twins and a single). None are biologically his but are completely his by choice. He is recently retired and now lives in Crystal Lake, Ill., to be near his younger three grandchildren.
