University defends PAAC championship

University used balanced scoring to defend their Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference championship with a 55-28 win at Bethesda Christian last Saturday afternoon.

Four players scored in double figures as the Trailblazers won their fourth PAAC championship in five seasons. Taylor Seay had a team-high 11 points with Bright, Washington and Payton Seay scoring 10 points each.

Taylor Seay split a pair of foul shots with 6:35 left in the first quarter to break a 2-2 tie and University led the rest of the way. The Trailblazers held Bethesda scoreless for more than six minutes in the quarter, opening up a 19-2 lead and led 19-5 at the end of the first quarter. Washington, Taylor Seay and Patterson had five points each in the quarter.

The Blazers held the Patriots scoreless in the second quarter until Bethesda scored with three seconds left in the half.  Washington had five more points in the second quarter as University led 32-7 at the break.

University stretched their lead to 44-15 after three quarters as Payton Seay tallied nine points. The running clock went in effect at 50-15 with 6:23 left in the game on a Taylor Seay three-point play. University led 53-18 before the Patriots went on a 10-0 run.

University improves to 14-4 with the win.  Bethesda Christian is 8-11. The Patriots were led by nine points from Kenzie Fulks.

The Trailblazers are next in action Saturday at Lapel for a 1:30 p.m. matinee.
