The Hamilton Southeastern girls basketball team ran away from Fort Wayne Carroll 58-44 Thursday in the first game of a morning girls-boys doubleheader between the host Royals and the Chargers.
Southeastern, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, took care of things quickly by outscoring Carroll 20-3 in the first quarter. Riley Makalusky scored eight points during that period, with Maya Makalusky adding six points. The Royals then steadily added to their lead over the next two quarters, going up 35-15 by halftime and 48-25 after three periods.
Riley Makaluksy added another nine points in the second quarter and six more in the third. She finished with a game-high 27 points, while Maya Makalusky added 14 points, including two 3-pointers.
Riley Makaluksy led the rebounds with seven, followed by Teegan Acres with six and Maya Makalusky with five. Olivia Brown dished out 11 assists, while Maya Makalusky made four steals and blocked two shots.
Southeastern is 13-1 and will play next week at the Paul Loggan Memorial Tournament at North Central. The Royals will take on two out-of-state teams, playing Springsboro (Ohio) on Wednesday and Henderson County (Ky.) the next day.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys team fell to Carroll 69-46 in the second game of the doubleheader on Thursday.
The Chargers outscored the Royals in all four quarters of the game, leading 16-10 after one period and 33-19 at halftime. Southeastern did score 19 points in the third quarter, including 11 from Donovan Hamilton. He would hit two 3s during that period.
Hamilton totaled three 3s for the game and led the Royals scoring with 19 points. Braeden Totten made two triples on his way to nine points.
Southeastern is 2-4 and plays next week at the Homestead Tournament. The Royals begin play Wednesday by taking on South Bend St. Joseph at 10 a.m.
