Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 43-24 dual meet to Zionsville Wednesday at the Royals’ gym.
Southeastern took an early 9-0 lead, as Jackson Goodyear won a 4-1 decision at 220 pounds, then Dom Burgett got a first-period fall at 285. Burgett is state-ranked No. 7 in that weight class.
The Eagles took over after that, winning the next five matches, including three by pin, to take a 25-9 lead. The Royals then won the next three bouts: Chris Casler (at 138) and Adam Gerstner (at 145) both got decisions, then Zach Lang pinned his opponent at 152. (Lang is ranked eighth at 145).
Zionsville won the 160-pound match by pin. Southeastern’s Said Soufiyane answered that with a decision victory at 170. But the Eagles took the next two matches to clinch the dual win.
The Royals are back in action Saturday at the Plainfield Invitational.
