The University girls raced to a 22-5 first quarter lead and cruised to a comfortable 56-24 win over Bethesda Christian Monday night at The U Center.
Six Trailblazers scored in the opening quarter beginning with a Keira Bright three-pointer from the right wing and ending with a buzzer beating jump shot from Anyah Jordan-Turley off an inbound pass from Jordan Patterson with 1.2 seconds left. Kelsey DuBois, who had a game-high 24 points, had six points in the opening quarter. Patterson and Payton Seay had four points each and Taylor Seay added a three pointer.
The scoring pace slowed in the second quarter as University took a 34-8 halftime lead. DuBois had nine points in the quarter including a three-pointer, with Payton Seay adding a triple to close out the scoring. The Blazers maintained the pace in the third quarter and a DuBois rebound bucket early in the fourth quarter instituted the running clock for the remained of the game.
DuBois scored her 24 points on 9-for-12 shooting. Payton Seay (11) and Jordan Patterson (10) also reached double figures. Payton Seay had a team-high eight rebounds. Patterson had four assists.
University improved to 7-4 on the season. The Blazers are next in action Friday night at The U Center hosting PAAC North rival Muncie Burris.
Bethesda Christian fell to 4-3 for the year.
