Seniors Payton Seay and Kelsey DuBois became the fourth and fifth University Trailblazers to score 1,000 career points Saturday in the Trailblazers 67-47 loss at Roncalli.
Seay reached the milestone late in the first quarter, fittingly on an offensive rebound basket. DuBois converted an old fashioned three-point play 16 seconds in to the second quarter with the made free throw her 1,000th point.
Seay finished with a game-high 20 points. The 5-5 guard had seven rebounds, five of which were on the offensive boards. Seay also had four steals. DuBois finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.
University struggled in the first quarter, falling behind the Royals 22-2 late in the period. The Blazers answered with 13 straight points to get back within 22-15, but Roncalli was able to push the lead back to 38-23 at halftime and University was never able to get the lead to single digits the rest of the way.
The Blazers shot just 25 percent from the field and had a season low five assists.
Seay and DuBois join Lindsey Syrek (Class of 2020 – 1,812 points), Katie Adlam (Class of 2009 – 1,626 points) and Bria Sneed (Class of 2010 – 1,432 points) in University’s 1,000 point club.
University’s record falls to 6-4 on the season. The Blazers will host Bethesda Christian Monday night at the U Center in a varsity only contest. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
