Frederick C. Thatcher, 81, Fishers, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his home. He was born on December 11, 1940, to Harold and Emma (Groh) Thatcher in Chicago, Ill.
Frederick earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He then earned his PhD in Physics from the University of California State in San Bernardino. Frederick was a physics professor at IUPUI for 34 years before retiring. He also worked and retired from Naval Avionics Center. Frederick enjoyed reading, computer gaming, and spending time with his family. He was a son, brother, father, and lover of any and all kinds of cookies.
He is survived by his children, John Thatcher, Karen Waterman, and Sonia Walton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold L. Thatcher.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, Fishers. A graveside service will be at Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery in Indianapolis.

I studied physics under Dr Thatcher from 1979 to 1982 when I graduated with a BS in physics. I eventually earned a PhD in math and became an Engineering Fellow at Raytheon. I have done over 100 inventions in aerospace and published three books. He was a fabulous teacher whom we all loved.
