Soccer: Several victories for boys & girls teams

The Carmel girls soccer team won its Senior Night game on Wednesday, playing solid defense to beat Class 3A No. 7 Center Grove 2-0 at Murray Stadium.

The 3A No. 3 Greyhounds got their first goal in the 38th minute when Megan Hamm scored unassisted from 18 yards. Carmel’s second goal was scored in roughly the same fashion: Late in the second half, senior Kathryn Hartung made a well-placed assist that senior Sophie Shepherd put in the net.

The ‘Hounds are 11-2-1 and host 3A No. 4 Zionsville on Saturday morning.

Sheridan’s girls cruised past Rossville 7-0 in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game.

Chaney Smith scored the first goal from 20 yards, and the Blackhawks never let up the entire game. Chaney Smith and Mac Smith both scored two goals, with Mac Smith making two assists and Chaney Smith handing out one assist.

Lilly Chesney, Kadence Voege and Lucy Hester all added one goal and Ji Warren had one assist. Makenzy Terry got the goalkeeper shutout. Sheridan didn’t allow any shots on goal.

Sheridan improved its HHC record to 4-0 and is 8-4 overall. The ‘Hawks travel to Evansville this weekend to play 2A No. 1 Evansville Memorial and 1A No. 4 Mater Dei.

The Hamilton Southeastern girls team beat 3A No. 4 Zionsville 2-1 in a Wednesday Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Caroline Kelley scored for the 3A No. 2 Royals 12 minutes into the game, with Ayla Conn making the assist. Kelley scored again early in the second half, with that assist coming from Tatum Coleman. Kamryn Hoyda was named Player of the Game; she and several other players had solid defensive efforts.

Southeastern finished HCC play with a 5-2 record and is 12-2 overall. The Royals’ next game is next Wednesday when they host Mount Vernon.

Fishers also was an HCC winner on Wednesday, beating Avon 1-0.

Elise May scored the 3A No. 9 Tigers’ goal unassisted in the second half.

Fishers finished HCC play 4-2-1 and is 9-4-1 overall. The Tigers play at North Central on Tuesday.

University’s boys team beat Greenwood Christian Academy 4-1 on Wednesday.

The 1A No. 2 Trailblazers are 10-2-2 and play Tuesday at Beech Grove.

Westfield’s girls played to a 1-1 tie with Brownsburg in a Wednesday HCC game.

The 3A No. 15 Shamrocks are 2-3-1 in conference play and 6-4-4 overall, and host Carmel on Monday.
